이곳 주민들은 최근 몇년전부터 조짐이 심상치 않다고 말합니다.

중국 지질 연구소가 작성한 백두산 화산 활동 연구 보고섭니다.

백두산 지하에 마그마 방이 4개 존재하고 가장 윗쪽 마그마 방은 지하 5km 까지 올라온 것으로 확인됐습니다.

특히 인공위성을 이용해 백두산 지형을 측정한 결과 2002년부터 산 정상부가 부풀어 오르기 시작했습니다.

2003년엔 4.6cm, 2004년엔 1.8cm나 솟아 올랐습니다.
