(서울=연합뉴스) 이준삼 기자 = 국제앰네스티의 노마 강 무이코(Norma Kang Muico) 조사관은 18일 "촛불집회는 전반적으로 평화적으로 진행됐지만 경찰이 과도한 무력을 사용해 진압했다"고 밝혔다.

무이코 조사관은 이날 오전 10시 서울 프레스센터에서 지난 2주 간에 걸친 조사 내용에 대한 결과 발표 기자회견을 열고 이같이 밝혔다.


무이코 조사관은 "시위는 대체적으로 평화로웠지만 진압경찰이 군중을 향해 진격하거나 일부 시위대가 경찰차량을 파손하는 등의 폭력사태가 발생했다"며 특히 "경찰은 과도한 무력을 행사하면서 물대포나 소화기 같은 비살상 군중통제장치를 남용했다"고 비판했다.

지난 4일 국제앰네스티의 `비정기 조사관' 신분으로 방한한 무이코 조사관은 그동안 집회 현장에 직접 나가거나 시위 참가자들 및 경찰 관계자들의 증언을 들으며 면밀한 조사를 벌여왔다.

런던에 있는 앰네스티 국제사무국이 연례 정기조사 이외에 특정 사안에 관한 긴급조사를 목적으로 비정기 조사관을 한국에 공식 파견한 것은 이번이 처음이다.

국제앰네스티는 조사 내용을 영문 보도자료로 만들어 전세계 국가에 동시 배포할 예정이다.

이러한 인권 유린은 분명히 이명박 정권의 민주주의 정신을 훼손하고 있다라는 사실이다
