정부 소식통은 10일 "미 CIA가 김 위원장의 건강상태를 정밀분석한 자료를 지난달 우리 정보당국에 통보한 것으로 안다"며 "CIA는 김 위원장이 뇌졸중과 당뇨병의 후유증 등으로 5년 내 사망 가능성이 71%에 달한다고 분석했다"고 했다.
